"Your donation will make the construction of a health centre in rural Tanzania possible. The living conditions of the Maasai inhabitants will improve dramatically after the inauguration of the hospital; which will be built during the summer of 2018.
At present, the most vulnerable sectors of the community, i.e. women and children, are at risk of diseases that cannot be adequately treated in the village. However, due to their remote location, public transport links to Arusha and the nearest hospitals are often limited or non-existent.
The project includes an area dedicated especially to children and pregnant mothers. These women should have access to the medical professionals and facilities required in order to give birth in a safe and dignified way.
Health care will also be offered to the rest of the people in the village.
In addition to a head doctor, the government will provide two assistant doctors and several nurses. The clinic will also be fitted with a laboratory, injection site and pharmacy.
The construction has been designed to boost the local economy, whilst promoting UN sustainable development goals. New building materials will be introduced, predominantly using soil. Local craftsmen will be given workshops on these techniques, learning the skills necessary for them to work independently. This will create employment opportunities.
The project includes:
- A research initiative into the collection and purification of rainwater; for personal consumption, as well as irrigation.
- The construction of a phytodepuration system to treat wastewater, in order to improve the unsanitary conditions of the current toilets.
- The installation of solar panels, in order to meet the electrical consumption needs of the dispensary.
- An environmental study of the local area, to find a reforestation solution to the uncontrolled logging taking place to fire bricks.
